Sun Microsystems
Redesign of Sun.com
Sun Microsystems is the leading provider of industrial-strength hardware, software, and services that power the Internet. Sun Microsystems' success is based on a single vision, "The Network Is The ComputerT" and Sun's latest innovation, the "Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE)," is Sun's standards-based software vision, architecture, platform, and expertise for building and deploying Services on Demand.
Client Opportunity
- The sun.com site had grown to 40,000 pages, in addition to multiple application and global sites, making a transformation to reflect a new brand identity and streamlined customer navigation model a complex undertaking.
- The iPlanet alliance was ending in four months, and iPlanet product lines needed to be migrated to the Sun ONE sub-site with related software product lines merged with iPlanet into the Interwoven TeamSite publishing environment.
Niteo's Solution
- Niteo created a migration strategy that rebranded all pages to match the redesign and converted 23,000 pages via scripts to reduce the cost and effort of migration.
- Niteo worked jointly with the Sun ONE team to create publishing capabilities for content owners familiar with TeamSite but who needed to understand the redesign; along with Solaris, Forte and Star Office content owners who had never published with TeamSite.
- Niteo coordinated changes to the Sun.com and Sun ONE sub-sites, including dozens of application sites and six international sites.
Client Result
- The project was completed in four months, on-time and on-budget, to meet a date driven by competitive pressures and the iPlanet deadline.
- The new site was rated by analysts as "revolutionary" for its customer lifecycle navigation and streamlined buying approach.
- Niteo's conversion scripts and proprietary tools converted 97% of all pages despite multiple coding variations and content updates that occurred right up to the day of launch.
- The Sun ONE team is successfully using Niteo's TeamSite templates, custom tools and training aides for a dynamic, easy-to-use publishing solution.
- Niteo's change communication program was rated as "effective" and "helpful" in employee surveys.
