Case Study: Novartis Improve Information Access
The eMarketing Data Warehouse (eDW) team at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation has a big job - to capture, track and analyze data on visitor activity and related information at all Novartis web sites. This includes not only the corporate site (www.novartis.com) and product sites such as www.lamisil.com, but also patient education sites like www.bpsuccesszone.com.
On an outdated platform, the eDW solution required an upgrade to ensure availability. Rather than update and support the old platform, Novartis instead took the opportunity to migrate the eDW solution to Cognos ReportNet - the Novartis corporate Business Intelligence standard.
Novartis' Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC) turned to Niteo Partners, an NEC Company, for help with a customized implementation of Cognos ReportNet. Niteo brought together experts from both the eDW organization and the BICC, then provided their own expertise, the Niteo ReportNet Conversion Solution.
"The fact that Niteo had an existing ReportNet Conversion Solution with a proven track record was a significant part of our decision," said Jake Bramhall, Associate Director - BICC at Novartis. "Our internal team had the business knowledge and skill sets to provision the data, but Niteo provided the actual conversion expertise."
Niteo applied its ReportNet Conversion Solution to quickly convert key reports to Cognos ReportNet. The conversion allowed Novartis to protect its investment in the business logic of existing reports, and Cognos ReportNet provided a web-based platform allowing secure access by other Novartis organizations. However, Niteo also took advantage of the new features available in Cognos ReportNet to create new reports specifically targeting the present and future needs of business units throughout Novartis. The application integrates with Novartis' corporate LDAP hierarchy for authentication and uses custom JSP web pages to manage and implement authorization. The eDW team was especially pleased with the results as the ReportNet platform was more intuitive and easier for their end users to use.
Thanks to Cognos ReportNet and Niteo, Novartis' Marketing IT organization can more efficiently provide data to stakeholders throughout the Novartis enterprise. By making these reports available via ReportNet, the team can focus on gathering data instead of running reports for other organizations. The BICC then acts as a repository of business intelligence and analytical expertise fueled by data from the entire Novartis organization.
