Standardization Success Story: MicroStrategy Environment Converted to Cognos ReportNet
A leading global pharmaceutical company engaged Niteo to convert their MicroStrategy application to Cognos ReportNet. This company decided to standardize on Cognos as a
leading BI tool of choice and is converting applications from other BI platforms to Cognos.
Background
The original Microstrategy application was used for click stream analysis - to capture,track, and analyze data on visitor activity and related information at all online properties.
These properties include not only the corporate site and product sites but also patient education sites. The details were captured in 500 different Microstrategy reports. The high number of reports reflected the requirement to create multiple versions of the same
report based on different time periods. The MicroStrategy application required a customer web interface, and did not provide real time data updates. Instead, the reports
were updated in a batch process. Finally users could only run a single report at a time due to the limitations in the web interface. These issues affected usability, and
contributed to significant maintenance and support costs for this application.
As part of the strategic value of converting to Cognos ReportNet, Niteo reduced the number of Reports from 500 to 38 while increasing ease of use and functionality.
Niteo leveraged the advanced functionality of Cognos ReportNet and used features like conditional blocks and pages to provide all the existing and some additional enhanced
functionality (i.e. more time frames) in a reduced number of reports.
ReportNet also utilizes the standard, easy to use Cognos Web Interface, allowing the client to retire the more cumbersome custom front end. The new ReportNet application connects to real time data and refreshes the data each time the report is run.
